She didn't. :(
These games are hard.
We were on the street once and watched 2 girls try several times to win a stuffed animal. But after each time, one of the workers opened up the case and kept moving the prize back to its original position. How unfair is that?!

A few people have asked me if I've learned Japanese yet. Well, with several hundred emails to go thru and answer daily, plus working on books and trying to work on my own books, I haven't found a lot of time to do it yet. I've been developing a better ear to pick up the words I do know, like ichi-ban (first), but I need to set aside more time for study!
Oh, this is a wedding cake to a wedding we went to in Nov. Just thought it was cute.

Sorry, I forgot to report on Costco when we finally got there! It was a huge warehouse, like Sam's, teeming with things and people (this was on a Saturday). I got a few cheap USBs (because my stereo has a USB slot, so I can fill up mp3s and stick it in - music for hours!), lots of food and snacks. You can also get full on the free samples - just like America. And just like Sam's, you have to join before shopping, so the 4 of us did.
I don't like crab, but I had to take a picture of the seafood section. Big ol' things, aren't they?

Mayu went out with her this weekend to a place outside of Kyoto. She had a massage, walked this lovely purple bridge, and had a great dinner of king crabs in the restaurant. I'm not a crab person at all, so I didn't miss out. I stayed home and watched Battle of Britain, Return of the Magnificent Seven, a Jackie Chan flick and tried to watch The Marine, but it was too camp for me, so I had to shut it off.

I know, I do spread out our adventures, don't I? Well, we're not traveling a lot these days and sometimes I don't know what to write on this blog, so I gotta stretch out our trips!
Here's another picture of goodies you can buy at the convenience mall we stopped at. This stand was right next to the softcream stand. Here you see hot dogs on sticks. "American dogs" which look like corndogs, but they're not covered with cornbread, they're deep fried in dough or biscuit. There's fried chicken, which you can get at every convenience store. But I have to warn you - their chicken is fatty. It's always dark meat and very hard to find white meat chicken anywhere. I'm not sure what they save it for, unless it's McD's chicken sandwiches!

There's a Costco near Kyoto, so the in-laws, Mayu and I drove less than 2 hours to go see it. Yes sir, it's just like Sam's in the states. Huge building, especially for Japan!, and teeming with bargains and bulk galore. Even some stuff I've not been able to get anywhere else here - like Dr. Pepper (ah, I did miss that) and a big ol' American-size bag of M&Ms. We filled up the buggy of course!
Oh, this picture was taken at a convenience mall we stopped out on the way (we stopped for softcream; soft serve ice cream). I'm not a baseball fan anymore, but leave it to the Japanese to make even baseball look cute!

On Sunday I saw Benjamin Button while Mayu shopped. The film was good, not great. I'm glad it and Brad Pitt didn't win the Oscar. If you want a heavily narrated epic, I suggest The Notebook and Forrest Gump first.
After that, we went to dinner nearby. A nice Japanese buffet where I had carrot salad, bamboo soup, grilled fish and a few other goodies I don't know or can't remember. Mayu had more variety since she's a seafood lover. I would go back. Nice atmosphere as well - see the bamboo on the ceiling even?

Here's me in front of Alice's restaurant - not the song - the best looking place to eat in the Magic Kingdom in Tokyo Disneyland. Well, equal, in a different way is the restaurant overlooking the Pirate ride. Each are beautiful places to sit and have a lite meal.
Don't forget - Alice in Wonderland is the greatest Disney cartoon ever!
